Tax Manager  

Position Responsibilities

The Tax Manager will lead the company’s tax function, ensuring compliance with Malaysian tax laws and managing cross-border tax matters involving foreign subsidiaries. This role requires expertise in corporate tax, indirect tax (SST), transfer pricing, and international tax treaties, with a strong focus on supporting the retail and F&B operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Tax Compliance (Malaysia & Overseas)

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of corporate tax returns, SST, and other statutory submissions in Malaysia.
  • Coordinate with foreign entities to ensure compliance with local tax regulations.
  • Liaise with LHDN, Royal Malaysian Customs, and foreign tax authorities.
International Tax & Transfer Pricing
  • Develop and implement transfer pricing policies aligned with OECD guidelines and Malaysian TP rules.
  • Prepare and review transfer pricing documentation for cross-border transactions (e.g., royalties, management fees, intercompany charges).
  • Advise on double tax agreements (DTAs) and withholding tax implications for payments to/from subsidiaries.
Tax Planning & Advisory
  • Provide strategic tax advice on expansion, franchising, and cross-border supply chain structures.
  • Optimize group tax efficiency while ensuring compliance with Malaysian and international tax laws.
  • Evaluate tax implications of new business models, digital platforms, and international contracts.
Audit & Risk Management
  • Manage tax audits and investigations in Malaysia and coordinate responses for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Identify tax risks and implement controls to mitigate exposure across jurisdictions.
Financial Reporting
  • Review tax provisions, deferred tax, and intercompany reconciliations for consolidated financial statements.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate tax accounting across the group.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation. Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, ICAEW, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of tax experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong background in international tax and transfer pricing.
  • Prior exposure to retail or F&B industry highly advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of Malaysian corporate tax, SST, and transfer pricing rules.
  • Familiarity with DTAs, withholding tax, and cross-border tax planning.
  • Experience managing tax matters for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a tax team.
  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia; knowledge of regional languages is a plus.
  • Strategic thinker with global tax awareness.
  • Detail-oriented, compliance-driven, yet commercially pragmatic.
  • Resilient under pressure, especially during audits and cross-border negotiations.
