Regional Assistant Manager, Regulatory Affairs  

Position Responsibilities

1. Cross-Border Regulatory Compliance (Import & Export)

  • Lead regulatory assessment across full flow: source (i.e. China) > Malaysia > destination markets
  • Ensure compliance across ingredients, packaging materials, and lifestyles/non-food items.
  • Identify regulatory conflicts and define resolution (reformulation, material change, labeling update, or market restriction)
  • Review and validate supplier compliance assessments, translate findings into actionable directions for stakeholders (Product / Supply Chain / Packaging / Supplier)

2. Ingredient & Formulation Compliance

  • Review and validate ingredient compliance across source countries, Malaysia import and export destination countries.
  • Support supporting document for flow of goods needs.
  • Ensure ingredients meet multi-country regulatory acceptance.

3. Packaging, Material and Non-Food Product Compliance

  • Validate compliance of food-contact and non-food-contact materials (e.g. cups, lids, straws, merchandise, lifestyle items)
  • Review material composition against country-specific regulations (e.g. plastics, coatings, heavy metals, restricted substances)
  • Ensure compliance with food contact safety standards, migration limits, and general product safety requirements
  • Assess user safety risks (e.g. choking hazards, sharp edges, material safety for consumer use)
  • Support development of compliant specifications for regional deployment

4. Labelling & Content Compliance (All Categories)

  • Review and approve labeling for Ingredients (food products), packaging / non-food items (warnings, instructions, material declarations where required)
  • Ensure compliance with country-specific labeling formats, language requirements, and mandatory disclosures
  • Validate accuracy of claims (halal, nutritional, marketing, product safety warnings).

5. Build Internal Awareness on Multi-Category Regulatory Requirements

  • Develop and maintain clear regulatory guidelines, playbooks, and tools to support consistent interpretation across ingredients, packaging, and product safety requirements
  • Provide training, advisory, and regulatory updates to cross-functional teams, ensuring requirements are correctly understood and applied in product development and market deployment

6. Authority Liaison & Regulatory Submission

  • Liaise with authorities and consultants for both food and product safety regulations
  • Support product registration, documentation, and regulatory approvals

7. Halal & Certification Compliance (Cross-Border)

  • Ensure halal compliance for ingredients across source, Malaysia, and export markets
  • Validate certification recognition and scope alignment.
  • Flag risks where material or ingredient source impacts halal status

Qualification and Experience

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Regulatory Affairs, Chemistry, or related field
  • Strong foundation infood regulations, food additives, labeling, and/or product safety (food contact materials)
  • Exposure tomulti-country regulatory frameworks(e.g. import/export requirements, labeling standards)
  • Familiarity withhalal requirements and certification frameworksis an added advantage

Experience

  • 5–8 years in regulatory affairs withstrong experience in multi-country ingredient compliance
  • Proven experience reviewingsupplier-led compliance assessments and translating into business decisions
  • Experience in export markets (Middle East, South Asia, EU/UK, SEA preferred)
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding offood additives regulations across multiple countries
  • Ability to critically assesssupplier compliance reports and challenge technical assumptions
  • Strong capability incross-country regulatory comparison and gap analysis
  • Good commercial awareness to balance compliance with rollout strategy
